Mr. Cardinal, Queen of Winter Homecoming crowned

Corning High School's Winter Homecoming week of celebration started with a show of Cardinal spirit as students dressed up for multiple day, pattern day, ugly sweater day, ending with Cardinal pride day on Friday, a basketball game and the crowning of royalty.

The high school's north gym was jam packed with basketball and homecoming enthusiasts watching as the boys' teams beat their opponents, the Yreka Miners.

Interspersed amid the games was homecoming fun, including a show and dance put on by students competing for the Mr. Cardinal title and the crowning of Maria Leon as the 2012 Winter Homecoming Queen.

Leon is the daughter of Fernando and Lilia Leon, and a senior at the high school where she holds a 3.3 grade point average and is involved cross country, ballet folklorico, leadership, Interact, and Friday Night Live.

The Homecoming queen plans on attending Butte College following graduation, and then transferring to California State University, San Jose, to become a registered nurse.

Leon's escort was fellow senior Jose Damian.

Homecoming's junior princess is Alexus Espinoza, whose escort was Marc Betenbaugh. Sophomore princess is Morgan Villalobos with escort Thomas Lowe, and Grace Mora was crowned freshmanprincess and was escorted by Brandon Thomson.

During the Homecoming Sweetheart Dance, the Mr. Cardinal contestants performed skits and where judged on their performances.

This year's Mr. Cardinal is senior Cole MacLachlan, who represented the school's baseball teams.

Homecoming festivities also included performances by the Cardinal Band and Drill Team.
