Briefs: 4 hikes in Buttes scheduled
Sutter County
Four hikes in the Sutter Buttes are planned this weekend by the Middle Mountain Foundation, with advance registration required.
Each hike is $35 per person.
The scheduled hikes are:
Saturday — The Ridge Ascent, Bragg Canyon, for hikers in top physical shape; and West Ridge, Shaeffer Ranch on the north side of the Buttes.
Sunday — Dean Ranch with volcanologist Brian Hausback; and Ridge Trek, Bragg Canyon, on uneven ground.
Participants are asked to bring food and water.

Yuba City
Tea party hosts election event
All supervisor candidates and incumbents in Yuba and Sutter counties are invited to speak at the first in a series of "meet the candidates" events hosted by the Sutter Buttes Tea Party Patriots and Sutter County Taxpayers Association.
The program is during the tea party's meeting at 6:30 p.m. March 5 at the Hans Miller building, 420 Miles Ave., Yuba City.
Doors at the meeting site open at 6 p.m.
Each participating candidate for the 5th District in Sutter County and the 2nd and 4th districts in Yuba County has 10 minutes to speak, followed by a question and answer session.

Yuba City
5K run/walk set for Saturday
The Have a Heart for Kids5K run/walk, sponsored by the Yuba City Education Foundation, is set Saturday at the River Valley High School stadium in Yuba City.
Registration is at 8 a.m., with the run starting at 9 a.m.
Entry fees are $25 for adults and $15 per child. The school is at 801 El Margarita Road.

Tea with queen set for March 3
The Miss Butte County Scholarship Program is hosting its first Tea with the Queen event at 1 p.m. March 3 in Butte Hall on the Butte County Fairgrounds in Gridley.
Tickets are $8 in advance, available at the fairgrounds office, or $10 at the door.

Banquet, auction on March 3
The fifth Annual Sutter-Buttes Chapter Safari Club banquet and auction will be held March 3 at the Colusa Casino CICC gymnasium, 3730 Highway 405, Colusa.
