Tea party meeting set for Monday
Second Amendment challenges for the state of California in 2012 is the featured topic at the next meeting of the Sutter Buttes Tea Party Patriots.
Sam Paredes, executive director of Gun Owners of America, is the guest speaker at the meeting set at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Hans Miller building, 420 Miles Ave., Yuba City.

Sacramento
Youth run registration opens
Registration is under way for Run for the Red, a 3-mile race to benefit the American Red Cross to the Armed Services program, in Sacramento.
The run starts at 8 a.m. May 12 at the Capital Christian High School sports track, 9470 Micron Ave.
The registration fee is $60, with participants asked to gather pledges for each half-mile they complete up to 3 miles.
Sponsored by Perko’s Cafe, the run includes obstacles such as football stadium stairs, bear crawling and high jumping. The first boy and girl to finish the race each receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Yuba City
Library book sale starts March 3
A book sale in Yuba City is planned by the Friends of the Sutter County Library.
The Spring Book Sale will be held March 3 to 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
The sale will be held at the Sutter County Library, 750 Forbes Ave., Yuba City.
All proceeds help support library activities.

Hospice planning will be topic
Sutter North Hospice administrator Barbara Hinkley will talk about “Hospice 101: Planning For the Future” at the Marysville meeting of the Funeral Consumers Alliance of Northern California.
The meeting, open to the general public, is from 2 to 3:30 p.m. March 3 at Lakeside Colonial Chapel, 830 D St.
The alliance’s objective is to protect consumer rights, advocate and educate the public about end-of-life planning and payment for funeral arrangements.

Masonic group elects new officers
Ernest W. Coopman Jr. was named to serve as master for 2012 by Corinthian-Hammonton Lodge No. 9 Free and Accepted Masons during elections.
Officers also include Steve Herrick, senior warden; Clinton Claxton, junior warden; Robert A. Lovell, treasurer; Jerry Sweezey, secretary; and Joseph S. McCleod, assistant secretary.
Positions filled also included deacons, stewards and chairs.
Yuba City
Sons in Retirement meet
The March meeting of the Sons in Retirement, Branch 45, features members of the Yuba City High School drama department and a short skit from their current play, “Seussical.”
The luncheon meeting is at 11:45 a.m. March 5 at the Plaza Room, 210 Julie Drive, Yuba City.
The musical weaves together stories and characters from at least 15 Dr. Seuss books.

Steak, prawn dinner scheduled
Tickets are available for the Annual Steak and Prawn Feed sponsored by Judge W.E. Tucker Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2563.
Set March 10, dinner is at 6 p.m., with doors open at 5 p.m., at 1425 Veterans Memorial Circle, Yuba City.
Tickets are $20 per person or $35 per couple.

Featured quilter picked for show
Marysville resident Dee Jagerhorn has been chosen as featured quilter for the 2012 quilt show sponsored by the Valley Quilt Guild.
A longtime quilter, she began quilting as an elementary school student and joined the Quilt Guild in 1996.
Her travels have included a quilt cruise to Alaska, the International Quilt Festival in Long Beach and a 12-day 2,000-mile trip up the coast and down Interstate 5 in Oregon while stopping at 35 quilt shops.
Jagerhorn’s work includes Civil War quilts and adding appliqué.
The 29th annual quilt show “Fall into Spring” is March 17 and 18 at the Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds, Yuba City Toyota Hall, 442 Franklin Ave., Yuba City.
